Does anyone know a good Pilates class in or near Ilkley? I'd like to get back into shape (not that I ever was), but mainly, I get really bad back ache and I think it is to do with my posture. I'm hoping that Pilates would help.
Thanks
Jess

Hi Jess&Frank,

I've just started one in Guiseley at Aireborough sports centre. Tuesday night 6pm. It's a really good class and the teacher is brill if you tell her you've just had a baby she lets you do adapted exercises and told me that once a week is enough. You can see the people who've been going every week must have really strong stomach muscles by some of the advanced exercises they do. Even after the adapted exercises I could really feel my core had been worked for about 5 days after. I've had some lower back trouble too and it's really helped.

The class gets really booked up quickly you need to book in advance. I ring on tuesday morning to book for the next week. Last week was full even two people in reserve but I rang an hour before and managed to get in because loads of people had cancelled.

Unfortunately this is the only evening class and it is a bit early. My husband makes sure he's home at 5.30 on tues so I can get there. There are some classes in the day but I can't get a sitter so easily for those. There is a creche at Aireborough and it's only £1.75 open in the mornings but your baby has to be 6 months old. I will defo be using this then.

If you're interested give them a ring today to book for next week, the number is 01943877131. Sometimes they don't answer the phone for a while if they're busy but you just have to keep trying. I've got a body line card so I just pay direct debit but I don't think it's expensive, probably about 4 quid. Let me know if you fancy it and I'll look out for you. By the way I'm Catherine and George's friend who lives in Menston.

Hi, the health vistors in Burley arrange a taster session for all new mums on the village, as there are pilates classes in Burley through the week. I do not have times/days but will get them this week and post a reply, the Aireborough one sounds good though, and there is a Pilates studio in Ilkley near Booths supermarket.

Hi there, have contacted Harrogate Hydro as there is no chance of my hubby being home from work by 5.30, so wanted to see if there are alternatives..

They have classes on Tuesday at 12noon. Wednesday at 10am, and Sunday at 10am. The class is £4.90. The creche will take babies from 12 weeks so gives me the option of going and it costs £1.80 for 40mins in creche.

Tel no is 01423 556775 for bookings.

Hi
Thanks for all the info! I've put myself down for the 6pm class next Tuesday at Aireborough... I'll have to work out who's going to look after Frank...

I'll maybe go to all the different classes and see which I like best!

Thanks

Jess

Hi, been in the village today so got the info on the Burley In Wharfedale Pilates classes. All held at St Mary's parish Centre... the evening one's are on Monday and Tuesday evenings, classes at 6.40, 7.40 and 8.40 both nights, there are some in the daytime as well but given lack of child care have not included details of them. You need to book by calling 07961 431502, it is Trueform Pilates.

Hope this helps. x;)

That's good that Harrogate take babies from 12 weeks. If any of you go and use the creche will you let me know how it goes and how it works.

Today I attended a Pilates taster class in Burley In Wharfedale which was arranged by the Health visitors.

It was a superb class, and the teacher was very informative and could tell just by looking at my posture where my aches and pains where.

I asked her if she had ever considered running a class where new mums could take their babies along ( whilst I know the babies may cry it is better than nothing at all especially if all attendees are new mums with babies.)

She said that if we could get together 6 mums that would fancy it, she would happily run a class. It would be in Burley at the St Mary's Parish Centre on a thursday at 12.15. They run in blocks of 10 for £70 but if you miss one you are welcome to attend another ( although as this would be the only one with babies it would probably be a evening one but as I said on another post there are plenty of evening ones)

Would anyone be interested? She is sending me more info through which I will post.

Sounds great to be able to bring babies along to class!

I went to Pilates in Guiseley again today. I was just thinking that I should only go every other week or stop going all together as it is £4.40 a class! I'm trying to make my maternity pay last as long as possible.

So I'd love to come to classes in Burley, but I can't afford £7 classes!

Maybe I could come and help look after the babies (for a 50p charge per baby...)?
