View Full Version : Housewife duties - weaning

I'm the first to admit that I'm a rubbish housewife! I'm just not very good at cleaning and washing and stuff...

I've started weaning Frank, and although he is not particularly messy, he does still get it down his bib.

What's the best way of washing the bibs? I've tried a few things with varying results from a 'bib full of banana and soaking wet' (wool wash) to 'all food removed but carrot stains remain' (wash on 60C with a load of stain remover stuff in the wash). Should I be soaking the bibs?

Or should I just accept that the bibs are stained and throw them out when he's 1?

Thanks

I am also pretty rubbish but I just pile them all up on the floor next to the bin. When the pile gets big I just soak them all in fairy overnight and then wash them at 40 most stuff comes out this way. I've got about 20 muslins and 30 bibs!

Excellent idea! Thanks Kirsty, I'll just buy more bibs - better get mother-in-law on the case.

Soaking them sounds like it is the way forward. Better for the environment too... washing on 40 and not using that stain remover stuff. I'm sure it can't be good for Frank's skin either! (His skin is bad today, so much so that another mum asked if he had had chicken pox!!).

Thanks

Hi jess, just one for Franks skin. Turns out that Charlie is allergic to the wool cardigan that I was putting him in every day!! Since I stopped it on sunday on the suggestion of my mother in law his poor skin has almost cleared...all that cream etc and something sooooo simple. Just goes to show. Worth thinking about what Franks skin is next to when it flares. Hope this helps.

Hmm, yes, I think I have a suspicion as to what Frank may be allergic to... his own nails. Every time they come in contact with his skin, he comes out all red!!

It is that or my milk... I've had eczema and spots since I was a teenager and it is linked to my hormones (e.g.: the pill makes it loads better). I can't help but think that my milk is full of all these hormones must be affecting his tiny body.

Final possibility, it is that stain remover stuff. But how do I get the stains off without using it?!?

Or, it might just be Frank. I had eczema pretty bad when i was a baby and it may be that it just runs in families.

thanks for the tip Lucinda, I'll try and see if I can see some correlation between what he's wearing and his skin.

I'm very pleased to hear that Charles' skin has got better.
