Contacts at Ilkley Gazette?

Hi

We press releases from time to time about some of the events that we run and we send them in to the local papers.

This has been quite successful with the T&A, but we are yet to really get 'in there' with the Ilkley Gazette.

Anyone got any top tips of how to get their attention?

Hi Jess, I have heard it is difficult to get stories into the Ilkley Gazette, but I have been successful both times I've tried. I think the best way is to call up and ask to speak to a journalist - Amanda and Andrea are two people I have dealt with - once you've spoken to them I guess it makes it a bit more personal, as opposed to just emailing a press release. The first time they sent someone round and took a picture and wrote the story themselves. The second time I wrote a press release which they then rewrote. A little annoying as the message was not as intended but at least I got some coverage.
The stories were a little different and I think that is what will get you in.
My first was about an amaryllis that grew back twice - to be honest I really didn't think that was really newsworthy but my Mum thought it was funny and I even ended up on the front page!
The second time was last week with a new invention called the holo - again this is a little different and I had some quite good pics from Ilkley lido, so was very relevant to locals.
