Hi

Just thought I would introduce myself, I'm new to the site. I'm 17 + 5 with my first. I live in Burley In Wharfedale. I'm currently trying to decide on what ante-natal class to go to so any advice would be welcome!

Hi Lauren,

Congratulations on your pregnancy :-) i attended the keighley ante-natal classes Which are NHS run i think and to be quite honest found them a complete waste of my time! They have changed now and are just one class so maybe will be better but i didnt find them useful at all really.
Ive heard a lot of praise for the NCT classes though :-)

Hope everything goes well for you & enjoy the rest of your pregnancy

Hi

Welcome to MoorMums. Hope you find it useful and supportive.

I went to the NCT classes in Burley (http://www.moormums.co.uk/pregnancy/classes/nct-wharfedale-ante-natal-classes-burley-in-wharfedale/) with my first. It was great to meet other parents who were having babies at the same time. We also went to antenatal classes (http://www.moormums.co.uk/pregnancy/classes/nhs-ante-natal-classes/) run by the Ilkley midwives. We found this pretty useful as the midwives knew Airedale and what was on offer there.

I also went to Gillian's preganancy yoga class (http://www.moormums.co.uk/pregnancy/classes/pregnancy-yoga-ilkley/). This was great but I had to stop quite early on as I got SPD (pelvic pain).

With my second baby, I did some hypnobirthing. Can't say I found this useful in labour beyond contraction no2. Although, it must have done something as I did get through it with just gas and air.

I also went to the labour session run by the physio in Ilkley. That was really useful actually. All about moving around and breathing.

In conclusion, (I've clearly gone to too many ante-natal classes!), if I had my time again I'd go to pregnancy yoga or some kind of active birthing class. All about practicing movements and breathing. When it comes to it, it needs to be second nature, so you need to have practiced it.

Enjoy your pregnancy.
