Rear facing car seats – Retailer example email

To whom it may concern,

I live in Ilkley and I am the mum of a 9month-old little boy.

I have become aware of the issue surrounding group 1 rear facing car seats through local information website MoorMums.co.uk.  They are the recommended way to transport children in many European countries (Scandinavia for example). As I’m sure you are aware, research and tests show, and experts agree, that rear facing car seats are five times safer than the forward facing car seats which the UK government currently recommend for children aged approximately nine months to four years (Group 1).

I am aware that although many parents in the UK are reluctant to consider the benefits of rear facing seats after stage 0, there are many parents and carers who, like myself, upon discovery of the facts, are very keen to buy these seats, and are frustrated to be informed by retailers and manufacturers that the UK public don’t want them.

Many parents rely on retailers, manufactures, parenting publications and road safety officers, to bring to their attention the safest possible options when choosing car seats, but currently they are mostly only being offered group 1 forward facing car seats.

I therefore urge you to consider raising awareness of this subject through the resources available to you, to make these products more widely available, so that parents who wish to, can make an informed choice about which seat is best for them.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for more information, or visit www.MoorMums.co.uk/baby-tips/baby-products/rear-facing-car-seats.
Kind regards,
