MoorMum Sue from Ben Rhydding says:
We went to Newby Hall and gardens for the first time last summer with our son who was 1 ½ years old at the time. After parking the car and walking a short distance through the gardens, our first stop was the miniature railway, which was a huge hit. You can buy tickets from the station shop (£1 per adult / child) and trains leave every few minutes. The train takes you for a short ride through the gardens and runs parallel to the river.
After the train, we then went to the adventure playground. Luckily we had packed our son’s swim suit as there is a lovely water play area. This kept him amused for some time while his Dad and I relaxed on the grass in the sunshine. The adventure playground is suitable for toddlers and older children. For further details, see their website.
After all the excitement of the train and adventure playground, it was time for a rest in the pushchair and a leisurely walk through the gardens, which are beautiful.
Many events take place throughout the year. We went to the Yorkshire Vintage Association event which is host to a huge display of tractors and other machinery. The perfect day out for a vehicle enthused toddler!
Always check that the venue is open before setting off.
