MoorMum Heather says:

A great day out for free for all those train-obsessed toddlers. Very child friendly with cafe (pricey) and changing facilities. All indoors so great for a rainy day. There is a little train that goes from outside as well. The exhibition mainly focuses on steam engines but you can also board and sit on an oldish bullet train from Japan.

Always check that the venue is open before setting off.
